Do you even snapchat?

In case you missed it, snap chatting surgery is a thing. If you are asking yourself what exactly is snapchat then you probably have no idea what this blog is all about. Let me fill you in.

Snapchat is the latest trend in social media. It allows users to post self-destructing messages, pictures and videos to individual users or to post them as a “snap story”.

Rated only behind Facebook as the most engaging social media platform, snapchat is attractive to surgeons who don’t enjoy the censorship from Facebook and Instagram.

We were first introduced to the world of snapchat surgery by the one and only Dr Miami (snapchat username: therealdrmiami). Famous for his love of trap music and big booties, Dr Miami has up to 1 million viewers tuning in to watch him snap his way through Monday.

Here in the land of Oz, popular Sydney Plastic Surgeon Dr Tavakoli (snapchat: Drtavakoli2) has taken the charge and opened up his doors into the operating theatre. From pre operative marking to patients follow ups in the clinic, Dr Tavakoli shares it all with the thousands of viewers who religiously tune in for their daily dose of Tav TV.

Taking a different approach, Hunter Plastic Surgery have also jumped on board with the snapchat phenomena opting to “show more of the vibe of our tribe”. Practice director, Amber Moncrieff says that don’t to live surgery because it is not their demographic but feels showing “behind the scenes content helps people understand who they are partnering with on their surgical journey.”

Hunter Plastic Surgery happen to be the biggest CoolSculpting provider in the Country so expect to see plenty of fat freezing on their snapchat story.

Another one of PSF very own surgeons, Dr Sam Cunneen is a fan of snap chatting his days in theatre but his snaps outside of the operating room are equally as entertaining.

Dr Cunneen is not afraid to show all parts of the surgery and regularly gives us an insight into the non cosmetic procedures that plastic and reconstructive surgeons perform. His recent snapchat surgery removing a melanoma from a male patients neck was graphic but educational. We certainly have been slip, slop slapping after that one Dr Sam !!!

If you are thinking about having cosmetic surgery definitely get on snapchat and take a look. The snaps are both educational and entertaining and can really help prepare patients for what to expect for their own procedures.

We have compiled a list of our favourite cosmetic snapchat accounts below. Leave a comment below for your favourite snap chatters!!!

  1. DrDoublebay: Snapchat username Drtavakoli2
Expect to see lots of breast augmentations, lifts, mummy makeovers and brazilian butt lifts – Dr Tav shares it all on his snapchat including patient follow ups so you get to see through their healing process.
Keep an eye out on his instagram page as he often does impromptu Q&A’s
  2. Dr Sam Cunneen: Snapchat username samcunneen
Expect a good mix of cosmetic procedures such as breast augmentation and rhinoplasty with a sprinkle of reconstructive operations that he often performs. Dr Cunneens snaps have a good dose of personality which we find hilariously funny.
  3. Hunter Plastic Surgery: Snapchat username samcunneen
You can tell this team are a tight knit community just by watching their snaps. Expect to see lots of behind the scenes action as well as plenty of fat freezing. Hunter Plastic Surgery are the biggest provider of CoolSculpting and are often showing the procedure being performed as well as sneak peaks into new and exciting developments.
  4. Dr Naomi: Snapchat username drnaomi1
If you are into cosmetic injectables, you have to watch Dr Naomi. We love watching her snapchat non surgical procedures such as lip enhancements and botox. Dr Naomi’s clients are equally as entertaining, its any wonder we get any work done here at PSF.
  5. California cosmetics: Snapchat username Calicosmetics
This husband and wife team are adorable and entertaining. Again, expect to see lots of lip enhancements, non surgical rhinoplasty, cheek fillers and botox.
  6. Dr Miami: Snapchat therealdrmiami
It wouldn’t be a fair list without mentioning the godfather of snapchat surgery himself, Dr Miami’s snapchats are like daily episodes of a TV show. Expect to see lots of BBL’s, boobs and labiaplasty’s.
  7. Dr Martin Jugenburg: Snapchat username realdrsix
If I don’t mention Dr Martin I am sure my mum will disown me. She watches his snaps religiously and says that she loves that he shows a good mix of surgery and explanations for everything plastic surgery.
Expect to see lots of body contouring, tummy tucks and breast augmentations.
  8. Dr Schulman: Snapchat nycplasticsurg
This NY Plastic Surgeon takes his time explaining the how and why of the procedures he is about to perform. A very educational snapchat channel that will definitely help you understand more about plastic surgery. Expect to see a good mix of body contouring, tummy tucks, breast augmentations and botox

Honey, do these boobs make me look fat?

It might sound strange to some, but there are plenty of women who are concerned their new assets might make them look frumpy or matronly and rightly so.

Here are our tip tips for making sure your new assets don’t make you look bigger then you actually are;

  1. Implant choice:
Perhaps the most important tool to avoiding the matronly look is to pick the right implant. Scrap that, thats what you are paying your surgeon thousands of dollars for.
A good surgeon will take into account your overall body proportions along with the look you want to achieve.
Generally speaking, if you have a long torso with plenty of distance between your breasts and hips then you can probably accommodate a larger implant that may lower your crease and therefore take up more space on your torso.
If you have a short distance between your breasts and your hips then you are going to want to avoid an implant that will lower your crease or take up too much space and make your waist look even shorter.
This is where anatomical implants can come in handy. They allow surgeons greater flexibility in the dimensions. Short torso, no problem, your surgeon may opt for a short height anatomical implant. Long torso might mean your surgeon opts for a tall height anatomical implant.
Of course, there are other factors to take into account, such as your breast footprint but your surgeon should be able to discuss these with you during your consultation.

    2. Dress Code
No matter what implant you choose, there are certain style of clothing that are going to make anyone with a bigger bust look frumpy. Opt for more fitted tops and dresses and remember the neckline matters. V necks, scoop necks and sweat heart necklines are all going to flatter your new assets.
    Styles to avoid include:
    1. Oversized, loose fitting or tenty style dresses and baggy tops: Unless this style has a lower neckline, it will only make you look a few kgs heavier

  2. High neckline, halter neck, turtle neck: Whilst not completely on the no no list, be careful with the high neckline styles. Unless they are well fitted around the waist, they will make you look bigger then they are. Too tight around the bossoms and they will make them look bigger then they are also.
  3. Dresses with inbuilt bras or underwire: No, just no. Unless your implants are exceptionally modest in size, the chances of your augmented breasts fitting into a dress or top with an in built bra is slim to none.Final tip:
Bring some of your favourite style tops with you to your consultation. You will get to try on implant sizers at this appointment so it is not a bad idea to see how the new assets might look on you in different styles of clothing.

Dr Kourosh Tavakoli: Rhinoplasty

Dr Kourosh Tavakoli: Rhinoplasty

Many people are dissatisfied with their nose either because of the appearance, breathing difficulty or both.
The best candidates for a rhinoplasty are those who are looking for an improvement in the way they look, not those searching for perfection.

Today, the trend in rhinoplasty is all about the ‘natural’ look away from the operated look from the 80’s seen on so many Hollywood stars.

The ideal age for Rhinoplasty is between 20-40. Between the ages of 16-20 the surgeon needs to make an assessment based on physical and psychological maturity. After the age of 40 the Rhinoplasty surgeon needs to take the patients skin quality into account as the cosmetic result can be affected by excess nasal tip swelling especially if the patient has very thick, oily and sebaceous skin.

*Dr Tavakoli is a specialist Plastic Surgeon with an interest in Rhinoplasty for cosmetic and functional purposes. He has performed around 750 cosmetic Rhinoplasty cases. Dr Tavakoli performs both cosmetic Rhinoplasty and also functional Septoplasty and Turbinoplasty for breathing problems.

7 Cosmetic Procedures that will dominate in 2017

$

The cosmetic sphere is constantly changing with new developments in technology, products and surgical techniques. Here is our list of the top 7 Cosmetic Surgery procedures that will dominate 2017

1. Fat grafting

2016 saw some of Australia’s leading plastic surgeons take to using fat grafting as an accompaniment to regular plastic surgery procedures such as facelift and breast augmentation.
We bet in 2017 you will see more people opting for fat grafting in place of fillers in the face and of course, redistribution of larger volumes of fat to the breast (as a stand alone procedure) and the buttock.

2. Non surgical fat reduction

In 2016 cool sculpting explode in the cosmetic surgery world. If it is good enough for the Kardashians then its good enough for us right!
As other brands develop technology to eliminate fat, either through cool technology such as Coolscupliting, cool tech and Clatuu or through heating technology such as Sculpture, one this is for sure, non surgical fat reduction is going to become way more mainstream in 2017. Goodbye saddlebags!!!

3. Kybella – Deoxycholic acid (Fat dissolving injections):
Rumoured to be available in Australia as soon as next month, Deoxycholic acid (marketed overseas as Kybella) is a chemical naturally found in the body used to absorb fats.
Up to 50 injections are placed into the neck to dissolve fat and get rid of that pesky double chin.

4. Boobs boobs boobs
Breast augmentation continually tops the charts year after year for plastic surgery procedures performed so its no surprise its on our list for 2017. However, we think in 2017 your going to see the breast augmentation trend steer towards the more natural, in proportion look that has people thinking has she or hasn’t she.

5. Microneedling
With raving fans such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Naomi Watts and yours truly, we predict micro needling is going to become even more popular in 2017.
Who doesn’t love tighter pores, reduced fine lines and wrinkles, a smoother and more even complexion with minimal downtime?

6. Teeth straightening
With cosmetic dentistry becoming more accessible and the advent of adult friendly teeth straightening solutions such as Invisalign, clear braces and lingual braces, we bet your going to see more adults getting their pearly whites in order. After all, nothing shines brighter then a beautiful smile

7. Booty Booty Booty Yeah
Another one we can credit to the Kardashian effect we are positive the Brazilian Butt Lift procedures will only get more popular in 2017. Who doesn’t love the idea of full body liposculture with the excess fat being injected into your derriere? We predict your going to hear lots about the S-Curve booty.
